Ryan calls on Andrews Govt to lodge Murchison EOI
12 December 2019
The Andrews Labor Government should step forward to assist the Murchison community to save its aged care home.
Member for Euroa and The Nationals deputy leader Steph Ryan is calling on the Andrews Government to direct Goulburn Valley Health to submit an expression of interest for the Murchison aged care home.
“The administrators are seeking expressions of interest from government approved aged care providers.
“That process closes on Monday which means time is of the essence.”
Ms Ryan said the Federal Government had met the outstanding liabilities of DP Jones in order to clear the way for a new provider to take over the facility.
“It is clearly in the community’s best interest to ensure Murchison has access to aged care services,” Ms Ryan said.
“Murchison is within Goulburn Valley Health’s catchment and the health service already provides aged care in Rushworth and Tatura.
“The Victorian Health Minister should direct Goulburn Valley Health to consider what role it can play in ensuing these services remain in Murchison for the long term.”
Ms Ryan said there was a public benefit in retaining the nursing home in Murchison.
“It’s not good enough for the Andrews Government to wash its hands of the collapse of DP Jones by dismissing it as a federal matter.
“It is going to require the cooperation of all levels of government here to get a good outcome for the community,” Ms Ryan said.
