05 February 2018
Two Benalla P-12 College students have been selected to take part in the Premier’s Spirit of Anzac Prize Study Tour for 2018.
Member for Euroa and Deputy Leader of The Nationals Steph Ryan today congratulated Melanie Stretton and Willow Plex on their successful applications.
“I am delighted to announce that two Benalla students will be participating in the Premier’s Spirit of Anzac Prize 2018,” Ms Ryan said.
“The prize provides 22 students with the opportunity to participate in an overseas study tour to sites where Australians have served in times of war and peacekeeping.
“Finalists also have the opportunity to visit Canberra and are invited to attend an ANZAC Day Luncheon with the Premier.
“I congratulate Melanie and Willow on this commendable achievement and wish them all the best as they undertake the tour.”
Ms Ryan said the tour would follow in the footsteps of Australia’s World War II veterans visiting places of national significance.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for Melanie and Willow to learn about the service and sacrifice of our veterans,” Ms Ryan said.
“Our community is extremely proud that they have been selected to represent Benalla on this study tour and I know both Melanie and Willow will return home with many stories and memories they will cherish.”
The tour will include Darwin and Singapore, with the group visiting important sites such as the Darwin Military Museum (Defence of Darwin Experience), Darwin Cenotaph commemorative service, the Robertson Barracks (Darwin), the Kranji War Memorial and Cemetery, The Changi Museum and Fort Siloso.
