Country Football and Netball program to continue under a re-elected Coalition Government
17 October 2014
Grassroots sports clubs throughout the Euroa electorate will continue to benefit from the $8 million Country Football and Netball program for another four years under a re-elected Coalition Government, Nationals Candidate for Euroa Steph Ryan said today.
“Our sporting clubs and organisations are at the heart of our local communities," Ms Ryan said.
"The Country Football Netball program provides support for local clubs to upgrade their facilities and therefore involve more people in community sport.
“More than 110 projects have been funded through the program since the Coalition came to Government in 2010 including $66,000 to upgrade lighting at Euroa Memorial Oval and $24,000 to upgrade netball facilities at Longwood Football and Netball Club.”
Ms Ryan said that since February she has visited many sporting clubs throughout the Euroa electorate including in Colbinabbin, Heathcote, Mt Pleasant, Broadford, Kilmore, Seymour and Benalla.
“Attending a number of football and netball matches during the 2014 season I have been impressed by the commitment of club members, players and supporters not only to their sport but also their local communities.
Minister for Sport and Recreation Damian Drum said the program also provided benefits to cricket clubs and other sports groups co-located at the venues, through ground and court upgrades, new and improved change facilities and social room improvements.
“The Country Football and Netball program is a crucial part of the Coalition Government’s plan to create a more active Victoria,” Mr Drum said.
“The Coalition Government proudly shifted the focus of this program when we came to office to prioritise female change and playing facilities, assisting women’s participation in sport to grow.
“Over the past four years the Coalition Government has invested more than $138 million in over 770 community sports facility projects resulting in $593 million of new local sporting infrastructure,” Mr Drum said.
The Country Football and Netball Program is a joint initiative of the Victorian Government, the AFL, AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria.
