COVID-19 Community Update: Back into lockdown tonight, mask rules and where to get a covid vaccination (27 May 2021)

27 May 2021

Today’s news of yet another lockdown is so tough for everyone who has worked so hard to recover from last year. Here is my latest community update on the rule changes. If I can help clarify anything, please sing out. Sometimes we don’t have all the answers but we’ll do our best to find them for you.
As of midnight tonight, we can only leave our homes for 5 reasons:
  • Shopping for food and supplies;
  • Care and caregiving;
  • Work and study, if you can’t do it from home;
  • Exercise; and
  • Receiving a vaccination.
Here’s the latest information:
As always, the legal directives that sit behind these restrictions have not yet been made available. In the past, I have found that there can be a difference between the government’s public message in press conferences and the legal directions. This has particularly been true for restrictions on businesses.

MASKS
From midnight masks will again be mandatory indoors and outdoors, unless you are at home or a medical exemption applies.

CASE NUMBERS
At present there are 26 active cases of COVID in Victoria, but the list of exposure sites has grown rapidly. There are now more than 150 locations listed as exposure sites. Please take the time to check the Department of Health’s list here, however I have noticed that there is often a delay in the government’s listing of exposure sites.

WHERE TO GET TESTED
If you have any symptoms or you have been at an exposure site, please get tested.

GETTING VACCINATED
COVID vaccinations are available at the sites below.  I have already had reports that the phone line to book vaccinations is overwhelmed. If you have that experience, please drop me a line to let me know here.

I know news of yet another lockdown is tough. Our region has worked hard to recover from the lockdowns we had last year. I am pushing for the state’s contact tracing to be fixed so that that recovery is not put at risk.

Should you require any assistance or advice please don’t hesitate to get in touch by emailing me at [email protected] or phoning my office on 5762 1600. In line with Stage 3 restrictions, my Benalla office is closing to walk-ins, however we are on deck to assist you in any way we can via phone and email.

I will keep you updated as the situation unfolds.

Kind regards,

Steph
