Goulburn River Valley Tourism’s second annual Heart of Victoria Tourism Dinner was a great success on Thursday night.
Member for Euroa and Deputy Leader of The Nationals Steph Ryan attended the dinner at Fowels Wine in Avenel and said the evening was a wonderful achievement for the region.
“Goulburn River Valley Tourism has done an outstanding job coordinating the event once again,” Ms Ryan said.
“Nearly 90 guests attended including representatives from the shires of Mitchell, Murrindindi, Strathbogie and Greater Shepparton as well as Tourism Victoria.
“The evening highlighted what our beautiful region has to offer and brought together community leaders and key members of the tourism industry.
“Director of Marketing at Tourism Victoria, Felicia Mariani gave a great overview of trends around regional tourism and Tourism Victoria’s plans to encourage more Melbournians to visit the region.
“Our region has a real opportunity to capture that market given we are the magic two-hour drive from Melbourne.
“It was also great to hear more about the Nagambie Lakes Opera Festival which is planned for later this year.
“Festival organiser Linda Thompson gave a beautiful and impromptu performance.
“The evening was an opportunity to network, share ideas and engage in the context of tourism in the Goulburn Valley and I was pleased to see how many attended.
Ms Ryan said the Euroa electorate had so much to offer and it was important to look at ways of attracting visitors.
“We are so lucky to live in a part of the world that has such a diverse range of attractions and activities on offer,” she said.
“Wineries such as Fowls, Maygars Hill, Mitchelton, Longleat Estate, Tahbilk and Tallis, markets like Avenel, Nagambie and Violet Town, Seymour and District Art Society exhibitions and Benalla’s Wall to Wall Street Art Festival are just a handful.
“Events like the Heart of Victoria Tourism dinner showcase these attractions and look at ways to attract more people to the region.
“I commend Goulburn River Valley Tourism on the work they do in promoting our region and congratulate them on another successful evening.”
