Labor desperate to justify TAFE ‘rescue’ failure
09 May 2017
Gayle Tierney doesn’t believe in her own ability to deliver the Government’s promised TAFE ‘rescue’, today refusing to rule out any further decline in student enrolments.
There are now 123,000 fewer students in training in Victoria since Labor came to Government.
When asked in Parliament today why student numbers had fallen so drastically, Ms Tierney said it was because the former Coalition government had enrolled ‘fake’ students.
The Victorian Budget 2017-18 shows the Andrews Labor Government has cut $45 million from the state’s training budget.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Training, Skills and Apprenticeships Steph Ryan
This is a bizarre allegation from a Minister who is desperate to justify Labor’s failure to ‘rescue’ TAFE.
Gayle Tierney cannot explain why student numbers continue to fall or why the financial performance of TAFEs has not improved under Daniel Andrews.
Six of the 10 TAFEs that have provided their financial reports to Parliament had an underlying deficit in 2016 showing Labor’s TAFE ‘rescue’ is a sham.
