Benalla has all but missed out in the Andrews Labor Government’s Regional Statement released last week.
The Nationals Member for Euroa and Deputy Leader of The Nationals Steph Ryan said the statement failed to deliver new infrastructure projects or investment plans for Benalla.
“Labor had kept regional Victoria waiting a year for the Regional Statement,” Ms Ryan said.
“Now it has been released it appears to be a very underwhelming document for Benalla with only one small commitment.
“Rather than providing new infrastructure projects and investments such as providing much needed funding for Benalla P-12 College, the Regional Statement just lists projects that have already been announced, including some by the former Liberal-Nationals Coalition Government.
“It is disappointing that after 12 months in limbo, Labor still doesn’t have a clear vision for the future of regional Victoria.”
Ms Ryan said the government has also spent time and money developing nine Regional Partnerships across regional Victoria with Benalla falling into the Ovens Murray partnership.
“Labor has no real plan for the future so it’s difficult to see how simple boundary changes will deliver more investment and jobs growth for our area,” Ms Ryan said.
“It has already ripped millions of dollars out of regional Victoria including abolishing the $1 billion Regional Growth Fund which drove new jobs and investment across regional Victoria, cutting funding for country roads and bridges and increasing fire services tax by 11 per cent in Benalla.
“With thousands of jobs lost across regional Victoria under his watch, Daniel Andrews must do more than come up with glossy brochures and more committees.”
