More cuts loom on the horizon for V/Line
18 February 2020
Embattled Public Transport Minister Melissa Horne all but confirmed today that funding to V/Line will be slashed as the Andrews Labor Government scrambles to cut $4 billion from its budget.
Concerns about the impact of Labor’s $4 billion of cuts comes as Labor’s Treasurer says he is ‘looking at every line item’.
In a stumbling performance in Question Time, Ms Horne was evasive when asked to guarantee that Labor’s savage cuts would not lead to more delays for Victoria’s train travellers.
The Minister once again refused to take responsibility for failures in her portfolio, including a delay on the Albury line last week which saw passengers stranded for three hours and 38 minutes.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Public Transport (Regional), Steph Ryan:
“Customer satisfaction with V/Line is at a ten-year low.
“Labor has already slashed $149 million from V/Line this year, leading to more delays and cancellations for country train travellers.
“Last year the Bendigo, Gippsland, Albury-Wodonga and Bairnsdale lines failed to meet punctuality targets 12 months in row.
“Daniel Andrews has maxed out the state’s credit card on bungled city projects, leaving V/Line passengers with failing services.”
