More information needed on local COVID cases

Member for Euroa and Nationals’ deputy leader Steph Ryan has called on the Andrews Government to provide postcode-based data for COVID-19 cases in regional Victoria.
Ms Ryan said of the 11 active cases outside of metropolitan Melbourne, six had been recorded in Mitchell Shire.
“It’s clear that Mitchell Shire has a much higher rate of cases than elsewhere in country Victoria,” Ms Ryan said.
“Commonsense would tell you that this is likely to be a result of the proximity of the shire’s southern boundary to Melbourne and some of the hotspot areas like Kalkallo, Craigieburn, Mickleham and Donnybrook.
“There is no indication from the government as to whether the cases recorded in Mitchell are in the southern or northern end of the shire.
“I have tried on a number of occasions now to obtain a more detailed breakdown of where these cases are located, however the Andrews Government seems reluctant to provide it.
“Mitchell Shire residents should be told which postcodes these cases are in.”
Ms Ryan said given the government was providing suburb by suburb data to communities in the city, there was no reason why similar data could not be provided to Mitchell Shire residents.
“Providing case numbers by postcode would ensure residents are informed about the level of risk in their own community, while protecting the privacy of those who are ill,” Ms Ryan said.
