Renewed push for Heathcote buses
29 March 2018
Member for Euroa and Deputy Leader of The Nationals Steph Ryan has told the Andrews Labor Government it’s time to provide increased bus services between Heathcote and Bendigo.
In Parliament this week Ms Ryan again drew attention to the inadequacies in Heathcote's bus service and again called on Jacinta Allan to increase services.
“Heathcote residents want to see extra services, including a weekend service, between Heathcote and Bendigo,” Ms Ryan said.
“The Minister for Public Transport's favurite word at the moment is 'consulting'. It is used second only to 'planning'.
“Labor says it is consulting about extra bus services, but what we need is funding.”
Currently there are only five buses to Heathcote from Bendigo each day, and buses only run Monday to Friday with no weekend routes.
Ms Ryan said the Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allen was fully aware of Heathcote’s need for increased bus services to Bendigo.
“The Minister’s own electorate borders the Euroa electorate between Heathcote and Bendigo, with the McIvor Highway running right across the boundary and on to Bendigo,” Ms Ryan said.
“She has constituents in Axedale who would benefit from increased bus services yet she has dragged her heels on it for almost four years.
“I urge the government to provide funding in this year's budget to introduce extra services.
“Extra services would open new opportunities for employment and training and make it easier for residents to access services not available in Heathcote,” Ms Ryan said.
