Member for Euroa and Deputy Leader of The Nationals Steph Ryan is asking residents across the Euroa electorate to tell her about the worst roads in the Euroa electorate.
Ms Ryan said she would use the information to make a submission to the Victorian Government’s Towards Zero strategy, which aims to reduce the road toll.
“The Andrews Labor Government must reinstate funding for roads maintenance and improvements if it wants to make Victoria’s roads safer,” Ms Ryan said.
“We know that safer country roads save lives. Regional Victoria is home to 25 per cent of the state’s population, yet 55 per cent of the state’s road fatalities.
“That should be evidence enough for Labor to reverse its decision to cut the $160 million Country Roads and Bridges Program and slash the roads maintenance budget by 10 per cent.
“That money was improving the safety of our roads by fixing and preventing hazards such as pot holes and crumbling bitumen.”
Ms Ryan said there were many roads and bridges throughout the Euroa electorate that needed funding.
“By making a submission to the inquiry, I hope to highlight to the government how important roads funding is to our communities,” Ms Ryan said.
“The Sunday Creek (Northwood Road) bridge, Kings Lane in Kilmore, Creightons Creek Rd, Heathcote-Redesdale Rd, Murchison Rd, Seymour-Avenel Rd and Benalla-Tatong Rd would all be good places to start but I am sure there are many more.”
Ms Ryan said it was illogical that the Andrews Labor Government to developing a strategy to make our roads safer while at the same time reducing the amount of money available to maintain and improve them.
“We need to make sure that the Towards Zero strategy does not end up as another Andrews Labor Government talkfest but actually delivers some positive results for our community,” Ms Ryan said.
