Roads Minister pushed to meet on bypass

Member for Euroa and Deputy Leader of The Nationals Steph Ryan is continuing to push for a meeting between Roads Minister Luke Donnellan and residents concerned about the Kilmore-Wallan bypass.

Ms Ryan said the tender was released this week for construction of a roundabout at Northern Highway at Broadford-Kilmore Road in Kilmore

"In addition to highlighting Wandong's concerns last week, I have raised issues on several occasions and have written to the Minister twice inviting him to meet with residents," Ms Ryan said.

Ms Ryan said the government had a responsibility to the community to keep them informed and give full consideration to their concerns.

“I have again asked the Minister to meet with residents of Kilmore, Wandong, Willowmavin and Heathcote Junction,” Ms Ryan said.

“The community is becoming increasingly frustrated by the silence from this Andrews Labor Government and deserve a chance to ask questions and air their concerns.

“Many residents say they were unaware that the bypass would impact on Wandong until after the route was finalised.

“They are also bitterly disappointed with the Member for Northern Victoria Region Jaclyn Symes who promised a community meeting six months ago but has not been seen or heard from since.

“This ‘no show’ from the government is simply not good enough.”

Ms Ryan said she recently attended a belated community consultation session with VicRoads in Wandong.

“The meeting was held between 1.30 pm and 4.30 pm, affording those who work, which consists of most of the community, no opportunity to voice their concerns.

“The Minister has a responsibility to front the community and give everyone a chance to ask questions and air their concerns.

“In the coming weeks I will be circulating a petition calling on the Minister to front the community.

“It is unacceptable for the government to continue leaving the community in the dark and I intend to keep pushing the matter until the government responds.”
