Ryan calls for feedback on Labor’s public holiday plan
28 July 2015
Member for Euroa and Deputy Leader of The Nationals Steph Ryan is calling for businesses in the Euroa electorate to provide feedback on how Labor’s public holiday plan will affect them.
Ms Ryan said the Melbourne Labor Government’s plan to introduce public holidays on Easter Sunday and Grand Final Eve would hit businesses in regional Victoria the hardest.
“Labor’s additional holidays are estimated to cost our state’s economy more than $1 billion every year in lost productivity and increased wages,” Ms Ryan said.
“Particularly on grand final eve, the extra holidays will see many businesses in regional Victoria lose revenue, put up their prices or shut their doors altogether.
“It is also expected that 353,000 casual staff will lose their shifts on those days.
“This is a billion dollar blow to jobs and economic activity across the state.”
Ms Ryan said the Labor Government intended to push ahead with the public holidays despite the huge cost to the state’s economy and its impact on jobs.
“It is important that we make our voices heard so that Daniel Andrews and his Melbourne focused Labor Government understand the impact this will have on our economy,” Ms Ryan said.
“I encourage business owners, casual employees and anyone affected by these changes to make their concerns known through the Regulatory Impact Statement process.
“Submissions must be in a word document format and can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org by August 5.
“If you would like to discuss the issue further with me, you can contact my office on 03 5762 2100 or email@example.com
