Ryan calls on Premier to secure Australian Munitions jobs
14 May 2015
Member for Euroa and Deputy Leader of The Nationals Steph Ryan has called on Premier Andrews to assist Australian Munitions in securing remaining jobs in Benalla and Mulwala.
Ms Ryan said she had written to Daniel Andrews requesting that the Government work with Australian Munitions to assist it in exploring new opportunities to provide job security for the remaining staff.
"My thoughts are with those employees who will be made redundant as a result of recent decisions,” Ms Ryan said.
"Daniel Andrews promised that he would fight for every job in Victoria.
“I am disappointed that the Premier has not done more to secure these jobs.”
Ms Ryan said she had requested that the Government assist Australian Munitions to
develop new product ranges for the commercial market.
“It is important that both State and Federal Governments assist businesses to diversify and adapt to ensure they fit in with changing markets,” Ms Ryan said.
“Australian Munitions is a major employer, providing jobs to 225 people in Benalla and 430 in Mulwala and it would be disappointing if the Labor Government did not recognise its importance to our local economy.”
“Australian Munitions was working with Regional Development Victoria prior to the election and I hope that this relationship continues under the new government.
Labor’s decision to cut the Regional Growth Fund however is a worrying sign.
“I urge the Premier to work with Australian Munitions to secure its long term future in Benalla and Mulwala.”
