Ryan congratulates local schools

23 April 2018

Member for Euroa and Deputy Leader of The Nationals Steph Ryan has congratulated three local schools on their strong advocacy to secure $1.2 million to upgrade and modernise their facilities.

“I congratulate Euroa Secondary College, and Winton and Tallarook primary schools for their amazing efforts in lobbying to secure this funding

“They have worked very hard to attract funding to support the needs of our local students.”

The funding includes:

  • $950,000 for Euroa Secondary College;
  • $150,000 for Tallarook Primary School; and
  • $90,000 for Winton Primary School.

Ms Ryan has been a strong advocate for funding to improve local schools across the Euroa electorate.

“We know we need to invest in our local schools and I am sure students and staff are looking forward to improved facilities after they have sadly been left to rot over the past few years by the Andrews Labor Government,” Ms Ryan said.

“While this funding is wonderful news for these three schools, it is disappointing that the funding needs of the P-12 colleges at both Benalla and Seymour have again been ignored.

“The Nationals committed to completing the rebuilding works at both of these schools at the last election, yet they continue to be ignored by Daniel Andrews.

Ms Ryan said it was great to visit Benalla College last week to inspect progress on the building works that were funded by The Nationals when in government.

“Works are progressing on the senior campus, but there is still so much more to do.

“The school still needs funding to demolish the original 1960s buildings at Faithfull St campus and the modernise its specialist areas.”

Ms Ryan said education was the key to hope and opportunity.

“If we are going to give our children the best opportunities in life, we need to start with a good education.

“I firmly believe that, no matter where you grow up, all young people deserve a quality learning environment. That’s why it’s important our students and teachers are supported with first-class facilities.”
