Ryan encourages locals to get behind small business this Saturday

Nationals candidate for Euroa Steph Ryan is encouraging businesses and residents across the Euroa electorate to sign up for Support Small Business Day this Saturday October 4.
Ms Ryan said as part of Small Business Day, residents across the electorate had a chance to win gift cards of up to $100 that could be spent at participating local businesses.
"Over the past eight months on the campaign trail, I have met a huge number of hard working small business owners and employees," Ms Ryan said.
“Small businesses make an enormous contribution to the local economy and to our local communities.
“Research has shown that when $100 is spent in a local small business, $50 is retained in the local economy.”
"Our region is home to a number of iconic and highly innovative small businesses which have worked hard to differentiate their brand."
Ms Ryan said small businesses were often also key supporters of local clubs and community groups, and that by shopping locally, residents could help to ensure that support remained.
“Supporting our small businesses helps to create local jobs and shopping locally means that our money flows back into our community,” Ms Ryan said.
Ms Ryan said she was currently running ads on TV and had distributed shopping pads at local businesses to encourage them to buy local.
"The Nationals have always strongly encouraged regional communities to put locals first by shopping local," Ms Ryan said.
Shoppers who make a purchase at a participating local business and post a photo on social media of themselves with the purchase will also be in the running to win one of three $100 gift vouchers.
Minister for Small Business Russell Northe encouraged small businesses to register to participate on the day and welcome local shoppers through their doors on 4 October.
“In 2013 over 4,000 small businesses and consumers participated in the inaugural event and it would be great if we could boost those numbers this year,” Mr Northe said.
