Sport Benalla Raise the Roof Equestrian 2018 election commitment

Ryan to Raise the Roof

06 July 2018

Plans to build a new indoor equestrian arena in Benalla gained additional horsepower today.

Member for Euroa and Deputy Leader of The Nationals Steph Ryan pledged $250,000 to the Raise the Roof project if The Nationals are elected to government in November.

“The Raise the Roof Committee have shown what dedication and hard work can achieve,” Ms Ryan said.

“The group has been committed to this project for a number of years now, fundraising thousands of dollars towards the area and I am thrilled to be able to commit $250,000 towards making their dream a reality.

“The group, through people like Melissa Mounsey has passionately argued for Raise the Roof at all levels of government.”

Ms Ryan said the arena would be fantastic for local riders, as well as drawing people to Benalla from across the region.

“The Benalla Sports and Equestrian Centre is used by the Benalla Adult Riders, Big Valley Quarter Horse Association and Benalla Pony Club,” Ms Ryan said.

“Riders use the arenas for competitions, clinics and meetings but if the weather turns bad they have to cancel events.

“The indoor arena will give riders an all-weather surface which can be used rain, hail or shine.

“It will make Benalla a state-of-the-art equestrian hub, increasing visitor numbers to Benalla and giving groups the freedom to ride, train and hold events year round,” Ms Ryan said.
