Scholarships available for rural vocational students
01 December 2017
Young people from regional Victoria looking to undertake vocational education or training have the opportunity to apply for a new scholarship.
The Rural Chances scholarship, launched this week, is an initiative of the Macpherson Smith Rural Foundation (MSRF) and is available to students across Victoria.
Member for Euroa and Deputy Leader of The Nationals Steph Ryan this week attended the MSRF event celebrating young rural Victorians where the vocational scholarship was launched.
Ms Ryan said Rural Chances was run in western Victoria earlier in the year but had now been extended across the rest of the state.
“MSRF is leading the way in support for students from rural and regional areas in Victoria,” Ms Ryan said.
“The 2018 Rural Chances scholarship is offering 10 scholarships valued at $5,000 and a further 10 smaller scholarships of up to $2,000 to assist rural students in gaining a qualification.
“Rural Chances scholarship recipients also receive extra care and guidance by way of mentoring, networking opportunities and leadership development.
“I encourage all young people from the Euroa electorate who are considering undertaking vocational training to consider applying.”
Applicants must be between 16-24 years of age, hold a current Centrelink health care card and be planning to train in an area where there are skills shortages in rural or regionals Victoria.
Applications close Wednesday 20 December.
