Sports Minister briefed on Raise the Roof project
23 April 2018
Benalla’s Raise the Roof Committee had an opportunity to put their funding hopes directly to the Federal Sports Minister and Deputy Leader of the Federal Nationals Bridget McKenzie when she visited Benalla last week.
The Minister also attended Benalla P-12 College’s ANZAC Day assembly and toured the school’s new facilities.
Member for Euroa and Deputy Leader of the Victorian Nationals Steph Ryan organised the visit as an opportunity for local groups to update the Minister on their projects and funding needs.
The Raise the Roof Committee includes members from Benalla Pony Club, Benalla and District Adult Riding Club and Big Valley Quarter Horse Association who have come together with the aim of building an undercover arena which can be used for major equine events.
“Raise the Roof have a vision to improve and expand the equestrian facility on the Midland Hwy in Benalla which is already much used by clubs and riders from across the state,” Ms Ryan said.
“The committee has already done a power of work fundraising for the project and is now looking for state and federal funding to see the project come to fruition."
“While I am advocating at a state level, this was a good opportunity for the Federal Sports Minister to come and see the project for herself.”
Ms Ryan said it was also a great opportunity for the Minister to see building works at Benalla P-12 College.
"The Nationals allocated funding to redevelop the school when we were last in government and it's wonderful to see that work finally underway," Ms Ryan said.
“There is still a long way to go however and I will continue to lobby the Andrews Government to fully fund the rebuild.
"It was really disappointing to see that Daniel Andrews and Labor MPs have again overlooked the needs of Benalla College, when they announced what schools are receiving funding in this year's state Budget."
