Stanhope Bowls Club receives VicHealth grant

16 December 2016

Stanhope Bowls Club has received $3,000 worth of funding under the VicHealth Active Club grant scheme, Member for Euroa and Deputy Leader of The Nationals Steph Ryan said today.

Ms Ryan congratulated the club and said the grant would help to get more people involved in the sport locally.

“Sport and recreation clubs are a great way to get involved in your local community,” Ms Ryan said.

“Regular physical activity not only protects against many illnesses, it also makes us mentally healthy, alert and resilient against the stresses of modern life.

“These VicHealth grants ensure clubs have the equipment and resources they need to host sporting events and competitions which allow people to participate.

“Stanhope Bowls Club will now be able to buy 10 new sets of bowls which will be used by learner bowlers.”

Stanhope Bowls Club CEO Shane Walsh said the club hosted a regular social competition on Wednesday evenings and the new bowls would be used for this.

“This grant will help encourage more people around the town to take up bowls,” Mr Walsh said.

“We have primary school kids right through to adults who come play and the opportunity to use new and modern bowls should help them start up the game.”
