State Schools’ Relief gives local kids a boost through lockdowns
28 March 2022
Member for Euroa Steph Ryan has thanked State Schools’ Relief for the incredible support they provided local students during lockdowns.
State Schools’ Relief is a not-for-profit organisation that works closely with all state government schools in Victoria to provide assistance to families experiencing financial disadvantage with school uniforms, footwear and educational resources
Last year, the charity supported almost 450 local students with laptops, dongles, headphones, stationery and other crucial items needed as they attempted to navigate the challenges of remote learning.
Ms Ryan said demand on the charity had increased to record levels, with the organisation providing tangible support to more than 70,000 disadvantaged students across Victoria last financial year.
“Lockdowns and school closures have placed so much strain on families over the past few years,” Ms Ryan said.
“I spoke with many families last year who didn’t have reliable internet access, let alone the materials needed as remote learning became the norm.”
“The support State Schools’ Relief provided made a real difference to those students who received support.
“The charity has really made a concrete difference in the lives of many local kids.
“We all know how important a good education is and State Schools’ Relief has done so much to help support kids who were at risk of falling behind.
“I would like to wholeheartedly thank them for their tireless work to support regional students.”
Comments attributable to State Schools’ Relief CEO, Sue Karzis:
“State Schools’ Relief exists to help families and students who are struggling with the costs associated with attending school,” Ms Karzis said.
“Education is a vital pathway for every Victorian student and our aim is to ensure that every child and young person has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
“For any families requiring assistance, please speak to your school principal or wellbeing coordinator who will be able to submit an application for support.”
