Steph checks up on Rushworth’s hospital revamp
15 October 2018
Rushworth residents will soon have access to state-of-the-art medical care at Goulburn Valley Health’s Waranga Campus.
Member for Euroa and Deputy Leader of The Nationals Steph Ryan toured the new facility last week with Waranga Hospital’s consumer advisory committee member Clem Furphy.
Once complete the hospital will house all of Rushworth’s health services, including acute, aged care and primary care.
“I was delighted to walk through the building to get a glimpse of the new facilities that will soon be available to Rushworth residents,” Ms Ryan said.
“The expansion is due for completion in April 2019, with the first stage to expand the number of aged care beds already finished.
“The completion of the project can’t come soon enough for Rushworth community who have been advocating for these improvements for many, many years.
“The current hospital is more than 50 years old and, while the care by staff has been second to none, the building itself is no longer serviceable.
“I have fought passionately for this project because I understand how important it is for Rushworth residents to have healthcare in their own community.
“In 2014, the Coalition committed the $7 million required to complete the co-location and upgrade of the Waranga Memorial Hospital and Waranga Aged Care Hostel at Rushworth.
“I am so pleased that the government has come through with funding after strong advocacy from the local community and I look forward to seeing the project completed next year.
“This a great outcome for Rushworth resident and I am delighted that the hard work has paid off for Goulburn Valley Health and the Rushworth hospital committee.”
